The afternoon, the best part in my opinion to take a nice walk to
the center of Semarang city. We got the best moment for sunset and a nice view for Lawang Sewu. We started our trip after visiting Masjid Agung a.k.a The Great Mosque of Central Java by taxi only cost IDR 25000.

*never mind |
Lawang is javanese for door, while Sewu
means a thousand. I once thought this just ordinary old dutch building with
hundreds doors and windows (it was actually 600s but javanese said it was so
many so it should be called "sewu" or a thousand). But no, it's more
than that.
Lawang Sewu was the headquarter building of the first railway
company in Indonesia: Spoorweg Nederlandsch Indische Maatschappij (NIS). The
development of the building began on 27 February 1904 and was completed in July
1907. Most of building materials were imported from Europe. The designer of
this building were also two dutch men, Prof. Jakob F. Klinkhamer and BJ
Ouendag.

full history of Lawang Sewu |
Okay that’s for the history now back to our trip. When we were
there there was a reconstruction of the building so we couldn't explore all.
But still we managed to get a very nice spot which shows door in front of door
in front of door in front of door in front of door and soooo on. And also my
favorite part of Lawang Sewu was the opened doors with evening sunset strike.
And it is located on the second floor,
go find to side bulding and find small stairs.
Despite all of that, there are several
historical goods and how I saw the old system of railways was very interesting.
And of course, nice pictures!
Don't forget once you in Lawang Sewu, go
around the whole building and never miss any spot. And once you are outside, it
is Tugu Muda Semarang which is the center of Semarang city.
