Ramadan in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia [Part IV] - Getting to Deeper Prayer at Night

Masjid An-Nabawi at night
Right after we finished our iftar meal and pray maghrib, we still had time to get back to the hotel to eat big meal and clean up before we continued to Isha prayer. Time between Maghrib and Isha is the shortest among the other prayers, that's why, even we had the schedule for Isha prayer at 8.45pm, but the muadzin (a man who summon for prayer) started it at 9.15, so people could have enough time to eat and everything.

Because this is Ramadhan, we're not only doing Isha prayer but also Tarawih. If Isha prayer is only 4 raka'ats (5-7 minutes), Tarawih + Witr is 23 raka'ats. You know, the more prayer the more reward from Allah for us. Tbh, I failed to reach 23 raka'ats. Something I still regret until now. Main reason is: sleepy. Dammit.

You may actually join not full Tarawih prayer, for example you may only follow 8 raka'ats it's okay. You may also leave the mosque before the prayer finished. But you'll get it quite hard to go out since the mosque is always full! And the time between 2 raka'ats (after salam) to next 2 raka'ats is less than 1 minute. So, be careful when you're walking while the prayer is still going on.

Here you will hear and listen to the Imam (leader of prayer) that very feel with full of heart every word of du'a of surah. Sometimes they cry, stop for a minute, sob, then continue recite surah. Mostly, those surah are very painful, horrifying about how the end of the world will be, how some kafir (bad people) will get punishment at the end of the day, so it set the imam into tears. Since the more raka'ats you do, the more surah you'll listen to.

Maybe for us who don't understand arab won't know any words but we could still feel the pain whenever the imam cries. Even, sometimes it got me so sleepy too *self slap*. Because we didn't take a nap and mostly the day is tiring with heat so at night we k.o. already.

Here's my advice: Do take a nap between Dhuhr to Asr. Get coffee or some energy drink. And of course, reassure your heart that you need real intention for this prayer.

Here's my next story on [Part V] or read again my previous story on [Part III]
