Merapi Walk

Sunday, October 5, 2014

This was a quite old trip with friends to Merapi but only in the slope, not to the peak. It’s 3km to the peak of Merapi Mountain and we did enjoy the nature and the giant damage after the massive eruption in 2010 (yes, it’s getting beautiful since the eruption and become one tourism spot in Yogyakarta).

As we were in mountain area, the weather is cool but not so cold. It’s full of rocks that all came from Merapi, most of them are materials of eruption. When it is dry season you can easily enjoy the river as the water flows less strong, but when wet/rainy season the river is likely going to flood the area, even sometimes reaching the village. The track is also way more slippery in wet, so you better visit this place around dry season that should be on April-September.

If you want to track all the place, you can rent a motorbike or a jeep. You can ask with or without driver to go with you. To get whole story and right path, better to go with driver from local people that in the other hand it improves their living.
